Give the procurement bot a process owner.
A renewal recommendation needs trusted contract evidence and a person with authority to act.
What changed
xAI announced Grok Bot for enterprise on September 3. Its September 4 procurement example describes combining spend, contracts, seat usage and quotes to prepare renewal recommendations, while retaining human approval for communications, spending and contracts. Grok Bot is a product workflow; a Grok model benchmark is not evidence of procurement performance.
Where businesses stumble
A recommendation can look persuasive while using an outdated contract, incomplete usage data or a quote with different terms. A savings estimate also means little if service quality or supplier risk changes.
The CBA response
C: map renewal decisions, deadlines and approval authority. B: reconcile contract, spend and usage records with named owners. A: let the bot assemble evidence and options; the procurement owner checks assumptions and approves action. Staff need a clear way to challenge missing or contradictory evidence.
One practical takeaway
Trial one renewal with known records. Ask a reviewer to trace every material recommendation back to its source and compare the work with the existing process.
Right-sized for midsize & enterprise
Midsize teams can begin with a bounded supplier set. Enterprises may need procurement, legal, security and finance approval paths. Measure evidence quality and review effort; do not assume the vendor’s example proves savings.
