Claude can draft the reply. Your team owns the relationship.
Put customer context and a human decision around every AI-assisted response.
What changed
Anthropic’s August 13 webinar page describes its own business-development workflows: Claude drafts inbox replies for representative sign-off and prepares account research. This is a provider’s account of its workflow, not an independent small-business case study. The opportunity is support for research and drafting within a customer follow-up process.
Where businesses stumble
A plausible reply can miss a promise already made, the customer’s history or a service constraint. Sending more messages does not establish that customers receive better care. Staff can also lose confidence if nobody defines where their judgment belongs.
The CBA response
C: map inquiry, triage, response and follow-up, with one relationship owner. B: establish the approved customer notes, service terms and current commitments. A: use Claude to prepare drafts inside those boundaries, with a person approving the message. Technology should give the team more attention for customers.
One practical takeaway
Pilot one inquiry type. Compare accepted replies, corrections and time to a helpful resolution. Ask staff which context was missing before broadening the workflow.
Right-sized for small business
A small team can start with one owner, a short approved reference pack and manual sign-off. Avoid adding complex integrations before the process and adoption needs are clear.
